This is an open letter to everyone who has an interest in local history. you may have attended all our meetings, just a few or none at all.
We were formed in 1988 and since then have met on more than 40 occasions, both visiting places of special interest and having excellent speakers in the Village Hall. We would now like to hear from you regarding our future. Should we remain just an informal group or should we, like all other historical societies I have contaced, have a formal constitution? This need not be a long wordy document but something quite simple - Dr Alan Dodge has offered me a copy of the one they have at Freshford.
My own view is that now we have been given some intersting scrpbooks, photos, census returns, etc. it would be the right time to have a written constitution. We would then have an AGM o[pen to everyone when officers and a commmittee would be elected. What do you think? Would you like to get more involved? Please let me have your reply as soon as possible.

Our next meeting will be in the Manor Room on Wed 8 Sept at 7.30pm, when Jill Bowden, a registrar, will give a talk - Hatches, Matches and Dispatches.
Our programme for 2005 is now being prepared and we would welcome suggestions for both outside visits and talks in the Manor Room. Please let Jenny Harding or John Taylor know what you would like us to arrange.
